DOTS BIN Validation

Reduced Chargebacks & Identify Fraud in Real-time

DOTS BIN Validation is a programmable Web Service hosted by Service Objects and used by online marketers and software developers to integrate fraud detection-based services such as credit card validation and location validation into software applications and business processes. By using DOTS BIN ValidationSM , companies can improve business results through better resolution of credit card information and reduced charge-backs.

DOTS BIN Validation is an extensive database of credit card information that can be used within applications. By using DOTS BIN Validation in business solutions, marketers will improve business results through reduced chargebacks and better discoverability of fraudulent transactions. Service Objects' DOTS Web Services currently support more than a half-a-million transactions daily.

A Bank Identification Number (BIN) is the first six digits of the number of various financial cards. These digits identify which network the card belongs to as well as which organization issued it. Online merchants use DOTS BIN Validation to help validate transactions. For example, if the credit card's BIN indicates a bank in one country, while the customer's billing address is in another, the transaction may call for extra scrutiny.

Features of DOTS BIN Validation:
  • Over 55,000 BIN records updated quarterly.
  • 95% of MasterCard® and Visa® cards in existence.
  • Breakdown of card-type (credit, debit, or prepaid).
  • Identify country of issue, bank name, and phone number of issues.
  • Any system can easily integrate using standard IP protocols.
  • Typical response-time of 0.40 seconds.

DOTS BIN Validation is a credit card fraud detection service that when used alone or coupled with DOTS Lead Validation can reduce and prevent fraud for online merchants.

Usage:
DOTS BIN Validation has 95% coverage for MasterCard® and Visa® card types. This service does not have information for American Express, Discover, JCB or other card types. The BIN Number is the first 6 digits of the credit card.

Care should be taken not to reject cards that are not found in the BIN database, since that card may be good and may just be a missing entry in our BIN number database. Considerations for card issuing country should be considered. Credit cards issued from countries such as Afghanistan, Malaysia, Korea, and Ghana tend to be fraudulent. These transactions should be examined closely.

Consideration for card-type (credit, debit, or prepaid) should also be considered. Pre-paid ‘gift' cards have a high rate fraud. Subscription services should test the response for this exact string: "PREPAID" If the PREPAID flag exists then you may want to reject the order because it is a prepaid card.

No-cost trial keys for DOTS BIN Validation are only for existing credit card merchants with proven financial history. Due to strict licensing restrictions with this data, we cannot offer it to home-businesses, consultants, and start-ups at this time. Please call us for details.
