Where It Works: As soon as someone hits your site, DOTS IP Address ValidationSM will determine the visitor's geographic location and make that information available throughout the session.
How It Works: DOTS IP Address Validation detects the IP address of the user, and translates that to geographic area.
How Can I Use It:
- Customize Product Displays: On the opening page, a clothing retail site highlights a winter coat for visitors from Boston, and a Hawaiian shirt for visitors from Miami.
- Highlight Local Resources: A national bank chain lists only local branches on the home page.
- Target Advertising and Follow Up: From a sign-up on the web site, a hospital mails health-related promotional items such as refrigerator magnets with emergency numbers. However, they block this page for web visitors not residing in their local service area.
- Deter Credit Card Fraud: Certain countries are well known for fraudulent credit card use. Visitors from these locations using a credit card on-line are not immediately approved; they are requested to call an 800 number for further identification.
